Megan Dorsey- Project 1

  1. I really liked the use of lines, I was kind of drawn from the top right to the right in general, then down to the bottom of the page. I like how the image moves. I also like the fact that some of the buildings look like they are disappearing, makes me wonder what what there, even though I can fill in the blanks.

The only bad thing that I really had to say about the image was that the bird like figure in the middle of the page kind of threw me off. Close up i could not really tell what it was, I feel that the piece can be better with out that in there. It is sort of a distraction, and feel that it takes away from the overall composition. Maybe if there was more of that item then it would be better.

  2. I am drawn to the texture and movement in this piece. I enjoy the way my eye travels down the lines of the texture and through the piece. The line of this texture is then mirrored in the line of the cityscape. The higher buildings are to the right of the piece and then you work down to the lower buildings and trees on the left. The same can be said for the stop lights as they travel from the power lines. I enjoy that I read the piece from right to left because it gives the piece a unique element. Also, aesthetically, I like that the piece is pretty well broken into thirds with the sign, the middle sky, and the buildings.
I have a hard time reading the vertical lines in the piece. To me, they are unnecessary. Instead of traveling with your piece, it breaks it up. It creates stopping points rather than keeping your eye moving through the work. I also think that the bird figure is unnecessary. It also creates a point that I have difficulty moving away from.

  3. I love the idea of using the city skyline. I like the blurring used to make the city fall into the background without getting lost. I like the color you get from the signs and traffic signals. The use of line in this piece was excellent. It set a mood and gave the piece movement.

I'm not sure about the purple object. It seems a little put of place. The area in the top left corner is open so you almost need something bigger or repetition. The purple object doesn't seem to fit. Overall I like the concept.

  4. I like that this is a real image that has been taken one step further. The use of line is great. It overemphasizes the texture in the sky which really works for the project. I also like the small purple image in the sky. It pulls your eye of the city for a moment and helps move my eye around the page.

I feel like the stop lights standout a bit too much. They don't look like they quite belong in the picture. I think if they were blended a little better they would have set in to the picture. Great use of line though!
