Marc Remesi project 1

  1. I think this piece is one of the most creative ones in the class. From afar it seems like only a few things are within the image, but when you look closely you see a lot more going on. I think the way things are blurred and some things are less easy to see make this piece very interesting and appealing to look at. I also like how you used realistic images to make an unrealistic image.

The one thing i would consider is how much of the guy in the background is see-through. I think it would help if his whole body was the same opacity level. He seems more vivid on the right side and it kind of throws off the balance.

  2. The composition is very strong with the car positioned at the bottom right of the picture. The car its self has a interesting blurred effect to the work but also works to frame in the rest of the scene and show movement. The car looks as if it is traveling at high speeds down a narrow road. The yellow line of the road also acts as orthangles that give the viewer the idea of perspective.
The spooky masked figure is kind of overwhelming, although very subtle it takes over all the other imagines after it is noticed. Maybe that is what you are gong for but maybe lowering the opacity or layer style will give it a different effect.

  3. This piece, while rather impressive, seems a little unbalanced in terms of composition. The scissors in the center seem to just absorb the attention, locking the viewer's eye movement into it. But once you get past that, you then notice the disembodied face hovering above the whole scene, which when first seen is rather startling. when I look at this my eyes follow the direction the figure is looking, down to the sports car, then back to the scissors where it more or less stops at the circular handle part on the left. Aside from that, though, the composition is pretty effective, framing the image and helping the viewer to see the image as a whole instead of as just separate parts.
The high amounts of contrast and the small splashes of light really bring a sense of drama and energy to the image. Overall, this image feels almost like it could be a narrative or an illustration for such, but the scissors just take all the attention. Maybe this could be fixed by lowering the opacity of the amount of which the scissors absolutely stand out in the image, maybe by blurring it slightly or shrinking it some. The sharp edges in comparison to the blur of the car and the road really command attention.

  4. The placement of the car in the piece is very dominating, however it is appropriate and works well within this layout. Great use of the diagonal (road lines), this leads the viewer’s eye into the composition. The overall blur of the piece reminds me of a scene in a movie, where someone is traveling fast down a long road, with tons of things on his mind. Seeing this on the wall I didn’t notice the creepy figure in the background. After seeing it up close it has totally changed the mood of the piece for me. This also makes me think differently about the scissors, giving more of a creepy feeling. There is a good use of depth in the piece from the car in the foreground to the scissors in the middle and then the figure in the backgound.

There are a few things that stand out to me that could use some tweaking. Even though the blurry car gives the illusion of movement, I would like to see it in focus a little more; since the entire image it pretty blurry, it kind of hurts my eyes if I stare at it too long. Also I would like to see the figure in the background closer to being the same level of opacity, the darker pattern caught my eye before the face did.
