  1. I really enjoy this piece, and think the composition works very well. The energy of the red marks in the top portions balance the jagged lines made buy the ruin-istic landscape below. I like that you decided to make it into 3rds. The moon on the top right corner, its echo in the middle section, and the subtle brightness and building in the bottom left corner create an implied line that do a great job of carrying my eye from section to section.

My only issue with the image is that the middle portion and the bottom portion share such similar colors and tones that I start to begin to question if there are supposed to be one larger section together or as two distinct bands going across he page. I think since the middle section has a slightly darker side, I would push more dark into that section as opposed to changing the bottom portion at all. I think the bottom portion looks great being lighter than the rest with a lower contrast.

this piece makes me feel like this is a place either set in the past or future, of a human civilization vanished. I feel like this place would have been a mass city capable of sustained hundreds of thousands and was a very pivotal part of the world, that something great and devastating happened to make them abandon and vanish and become forgotten. It would be like finding the the aztec empire, knowing it once was a place that held millions, and flourished, and yet we as a people actually happened upon rediscovering them. ANYWAY...rambling...I like how this piece makes me think about all that instead of giving me the answers I am trying to find in it.

  2. The gradient of grays with the ruins work well together. Also the moon reflecting on the top of the water(?) creates a very specific image.

The "stickler" for me is the stretch of gray space in the middle; it can translate as the surface of water but it seems too wide to have the full effect. Expanding the city upwards would have probably gave more of the sunken city feel.

Personally I found the picture spooky, in a good way. At the bottom it appears to be a forgotten or sunken city beneath the waves while the moon shines against a sky that seemed to spell doom and gloom.

  3. I like the idea of having three rows or sections in the composition. Maybe to represent three different ideas. I like how the moon kind of illuminates the composition. The picture itself is grainy and pixalated (don't know if that's a word, but I just made it one). Not too sure if the grainy affect was created on purpose. I can't make out too much detail, except for the bottom and the moon the top. That bottom portion was grainy, but again I don't know if that created on purpose.

You might have been trying to convey the feeling of darkness, loneliness, or sadness. I kind of get that from the darkness of the composition. Again the three portions could be trying to represent three different ideas or feelings. I'm not too sure what the message is. Some more detail or clarity would be helpful.

  4. I don’t want to sound repetitive so I won’t elaborate too much on the ancient landscape with past, present and future, but I agree with our other classmate…that is definitely the theme that I see when I look at this. I like the reflection of the moon from one frame to the next.
Your composition is good, and I would suggest reversing the 1st and 2nd frames to break up the blue color pattern. Or maybe you could try blending 1 & 3 for added dimension. 1 could be the background of three…adding some kind of light barrier for contrast between the black and red and the ancient structures. (This suggestion might make more sense if I could show you.) One other suggestion is to make the color of the 2nd panel a blend of blue and red and play with its opacity to keep it muted and light. Anyway this is a cool concept, it does communicate a strong theme.
