This was one of my favorite ones. It is really unique because of the usage of line and color. The lines seems to guide your eyes all over the picture and the usage of the cool colors give it a soothing feeling. The way you made the objects bigger and smaller also created a great sense of depth.
There's really not much you can say about this piece negatively. The one thing i can think of is maybe you could've added something really bright, so it would pop out amongst everything else.
I feel this is a truly fantastic piece: It has an effective composition, a great use of geometry, line, and tonal change to help unify the image as a whole, and a wonderful feeling of depth. The drawn images near the top that seem to go on into infinity, along with the shadow thrown by the globe onto the tiled bottom really work well to give a feeling of space within your picture, both visually along a 3d axis and within the positive and negative areas you have so carefully defined. The use of the simple black lines threading throughout your image help to prevent the viewer's eye from being locked onto one area (such as the white mass near the top) and help maintain a smooth flow of movement in your image. The end result feels much like an architectural drawing in it's sense of precision and careful planning, but it also feels like some artist's wild fantasy, sparking off into subtle whirls of tone and value that give it a feeling of airy mystery. A highly successful work, I would say. -Richard Pallo
Mike, very good job with this project I really like it and I see you really know what your doing. First thing is that the abstractness, if that’s a word, really grabs your attention and makes you look long and hard to try to get an understanding of its meaning. Also the textural qualities are incredible everything has its own texture and you can read that from fairly far away.
To be completely honest I don’t have too much feed back about what you should work on because I think you know what your doing you must have a very good work ethic and enjoy it because, you finished product is very nice.
I think this piece is awesome. The design or layout of this piece is done very well, allowing the viewer ‘s eye to travel throughout the entire piece. This piece is very pleasing from far away, but even more exciting once you are able to look more closely. There is great attention to detail throughout this entire image; at first I did not notice the buildings projecting off of the sphere shape. There are very beautiful textures in the background that are not visible at first glance. I feel that the illusion of the power lines traveling throughout the piece helps to unify the contents with in. The color in this piece is very well balanced; there are rich colors at the bottom and top, connected by the center that is faded out. The use of depth in this piece is also very well executed, with the fading of the tile texture at the bottom of the piece and the gradual change in scale at the top of the piece.
It is very difficult to find things that don’t work well in this piece, because everything was very well thought out and placed. If I had to pick something, I would say play with the color in the sphere, possibly brighten the green to make that part of the image pop. The green is noticeable up close, but brightening this area would make it visible from further away.
