Erin Simmons-Project 1

  1. Your project looks like a well-pieced together puzzle. Lamps and ordinary objects are flowing together in a weightless world of balance. This piece exemplifies the risk of plunging into photoshop and the reward of being able to master the chaos of the imagination.

As a self-portrait, your work has a lot of symbolic motifs-- I see metal, water, and green. I don't see anything bad at all. The only option I see is maybe you could break the well-flowing pattern to make a dramatic point.

  2. I like the overall color scheme it kind of reminds me of the radar that you see on the weather channel minus all the warm colors. The cool colored colors work well together. I also like the somewhat animated looking squares it adds a little more comical side to the piece.

One thing that I wonder about when looking at the piece is the head rest at the bottom right. It seems somewhat out of place cause it's not as in tune with the rest of the piece when I look at it that's where my eye goes and stays. Another thing is what would the piece look like if instead of cool colors it was made using warm colors I wonder how different the feeling would change?

  3. Erin,
The use of the different tones of cool blues and greens adds a peaceful harmony throughout the piece. The contrast between those bright blues and the black shadows of the different objects create a nice balance in your work.

Good use of repetition of shapes with the squares and also with the circular objects. I particularly like that they(circles) aren't exactly the same but are continued throughout the entire piece both in the foreground with the ornate objects and in the background with the element of light.
Your blending technique and wild use of mad texture come together and Overall, it was as excellent 2-D abstract piece; Great job!

  4. Erin,
This is a very colorful piece. I am guessing your favorite color is green or blue. Bringing those colors into the work definitely make it eye catching. You just see it out of the corner of your eye and you have to look at it. Collages to that as well and you did good job of making it interesting. Many people have a tough time doing that. But here it makes me want to connect the pieces and make them into new things. For example in the bottom left I see an eye of a bird with it beak part way opened in the background.

Collages are very difficult to master but you did and excellent job not adding to many colors. Sticking with just two basic colors and finding variations of them helped make it less busy. I am unsure of exactly how you came up with your final piece but it is done very well. My only concern is the object in the front on the bottom. It just seems to be there with no real purpose. I like it there but maybe under a lay or two. Over all well done, though.

  5. Your project has excellent use of texture and is very abstract. This piece has a very cool feel and reminds me of a storm. There is good contrast between the lights and darks. The use of shapes through the whole image creates a pattern like feel.
One thing that I think could be improved is the image in the lower right corner. It doesn’t really flow with the rest of the image. I think if it was placed behind a layer it would smooth it out and help it read through the piece.
