here ya go!

  1. The contrast of the light and darks work very well. It makes the eye focus on the figurines and travel to the other light/white subjects in the picture.

Ripping off of what Prof. Freeman stated about the Golden Mean, the subjects in the left hand corner makes for a more interesting piece, rather than them in center (which would make it look stilted and unoriginal.)

Personally, I like it because of the textures and little details floating above the figurines. Also the graininess of the picture and the monochromatic colours remind me of old films and nostalgic childhood memories.

The print version seemed a bit darker and strangely enough I think I preferred that version because the figurines popped out a bit more, giving the picture more of a contrast. But on the screen there are more minute details that are a bit clearer: the details in the wood grain, the two other animals next to the figurines and the texture itself is even clearer and more deliberate.

The only thing improvement I can see is making the subjects a bit sharper (if possible) and making the focus more inside the specific shelf housing the animals.

  2. One of the most immediately noticeable and most effective parts of this composition to me is the lighting effects. It adds to the nostalgic idea as if this were a snapshot of a shelf in a child's room with a little bit of dust. It reminds me of the Eye Spy books I used to read as a kid.
I like the texture in the foreground that makes it seem like you are looking through an old toy shop window, but it doesn't seem to be carried to the top.
I'm not sure what the dogs are doing there, but can pass as little lifelike figurines that are toys, just like everything else. The little sketches sort of look like snowflakes and are pretty well balanced.
I think the lines of the shelf tie everything together, but I would like to see more of what is on the shelves around the center one. It is a little disappointing that I can't, but also adds to the intrigue of the piece.

  3. This is a nice composition. I like the use of scale and texture. The colors, the wood shelf, the leaf design, the wolf the bear all remind me of fall. I don't know if the shadow was created or from the flash of the camera, but to me the shadow shows depth.

I don't really have too many complaints to say about this one. If anything I would have only applied texture to the shelf and not the entire composition. For example, below the shelf, where it's dark. I'm not sure if cropping out the entire background and just leaving the shelf there would have made a difference. The background isn't a distraction and it doesn't pull away from the focal point at all.

I'm going to take a guess and say that maybe this is a representation of home or where you're from. Maybe these objects are close you and make you feel at home. Maybe you are the natural, woodsy, country type. But like I said overall nice job.

  4. This piece has a storybook quality. It lends hand to telling a story of the two different types of animals finding shelter in this small place. The different usage of images for texture creates a look of fantasy. It strong qualities are good layering, good use of positive and negative space. All of the quirky shapes give it character and variation. Also, good color usage!

I think that the dogs could have been blended into the space a little better and just a little more pronounced (their shading). One more thing…it might be good to try cropping the bottom of this picture, so that you don’t loose the consistency of above it.

  5. thanks guys. I didnt even think about cropping the image. I was just working from it straight from when I took it. I thought about removing bits of the top, but I am getting more interesting feedback about that space, so I'm not sure about it... Ill have to play around with it and see how it works out.
Thanks for the feedback guys, great jobs!
