I love the background of the calendar- the brightness makes the image foreground and background blend together, making it 2d on the top and 3d on the bottom. The lines of the faucet, calendar, water and the edges of the sink create a fluidity of movement that keeps your eye moving. The left side of the sink is great as a more negative space and breaks up the rest of the space with a simple color and shape. A distracting point for me is the subtle dark semi-circle at the top of the composition. It seems unrelated and may be better placed either more to the left or right. The blending of the bottles is an effective eye catcher and is balanced by the color and texture added on the right side of the sink and last two bottles.
The colours work completely for this piece. I know this is a negative, but the way you manipulated the colours created an original and very interesting piece.
I especially love the water flowing from the spigot and the bottles and how they overlap on each other, creating more colour in between.
I agree with Jessi when she said the spot was a little distracting, cropping that out could make this piece even better. besides that the picture is captivating.
This is one of the compositions that I liked. The color of the calender and the color of the bottles blend nicely together. I like how the overlapping of the bottles create different colors therefore adding more color to the composition. My eyes immediately gravitate to the bottles.
I didn't notice the spot at the top until I read the other comments. Personally it doesn't bother me. Again I didn't see it to begin with. If anything it makes me wonder if there is something else that I would want to see (if that spot was intentional). I think that maybe this composition is about time or change judging by the calender and the changing of color when the bottles overlap each other.
I think that this piece works very well. The arch in the composition is not only very interesting, but very useful for drawing you eye up into the upper portion of the image and than back down to the mannequins. I think your use of saturated, somewhat muddied colors also is very unique and makes it more interesting.
The more vivid colors at the bottom are great, but they are a bit distracting. they keep pulling me away from exploring your piece visually.I think it would be useful to either place an equally vivid shade of blue somewhere closer to the upper left corner to try and balance that out. I noticed you have a dark blueish spot up top closer to the right, so maybe if that was moved more left it would help free my gaze to circulate more around to that area of the picture.
great job though! I think it looks really abstract and holds lots of symbolic references personal to you.

hey everybody... the figures at the bottom are not bottles... they are mannequins (body forms). I thought that i should let you know. lol
ReplyDeleteone more thing,
ReplyDeleteI guess nobody noticed the door knobs on the calendar...lol
its ok.
